Dr. Thompson obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and his Bachelor of Education degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland, and then attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and as Class Salutatorian in 1994. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Halifax and, in 1995, opened Sackville Chiropractic Clinic.

An avid weight lifter and martial artist since childhood, much of his current knowledge base originated with those early interests. He became a member of the Society of Weight-Training Injury Specialists in 1999 and is a member of the Sports Medicine Council of Nova Scotia and the Royal College of Chiropractic Sports Science (Canada). Dr. Thompson had also served on the executive of the Board of the Nova Scotia College of Chiropractors from 2000 to 2009, in the capacities of treasurer, vice-chair, chair, and past-chair.

He was a member of the Council on Chiropractic Education Canada (CCEC) from 2007 to 2016, a national body responsible for accrediting chiropractic teaching institutions across Canada, and was chair of this organization from 2011 until 2015. He was also with the Accreditation Standards and Policies Committee (ASPC) as a representative of the Canadian Federation of Chiropractic Regulatory and Educational Accrediting Boards (CFCREAB) from 2008 until 2016.

Dr. Thompson has also served in many other capacities, including Hearing Committee chair, Investigative Committee chair, Peer Assessor, Dept of Health and Wellness liaison, Nova Scotia Health Authority liaison, and as a tester with the Canadian Chiropractic Examining Board, to name a few.

Dr. Thompson believes that this level of professional involvement has ensured the development of personal high standards and integrity, essential characteristics in the provision of quality patient care. As a result of this commitment, he was presented with the 2010 Chiropractor of the Year Award by the Nova Scotia College of Chiropractors.  In 2018 he was the recipient of the Star Metro Halifax Community Choice Award in the category of Best Chiropractor.  He was again nominated by the same publication and received the Gold Award for Favorite Chiropractor in 2019.

Continuing education has primarily consisted of treatment enhancement courses, so that the patient might benefit more and more. He’s always placed great emphasis on developing a sound reputation utilizing proven, effective treatment techniques. Dr. Thompson is married to Susan English-Thompson, a local audiologist, and together they have three children, Victoria, Miranda, and Gabriel. As the owner of Sackville Chiropractic Clinic and the Vimiga Professional Centre, Dr. Thompson keeps a busy schedule yet manages to maintain a balanced lifestyle.
